Get to know David

Award-winning Melbourne photographer

  • I'm a Melbourne photographer and have always been super passionate about what I do. I've got journalists and painters dotted through my family, so photography feels just right when it comes to expressing myself and is the perfect medium for telling your story.

    Before dedicating myself to photography and setting up David Fowler Photography, I was a graphic designer and art director. After eight years in the industry I realised that photography as my go-to medium. I completed a course at the Photography Studies College in Melbourne before travelling around the world to fine-tune my new passion.

    After proposing to the love of my life in Italy nearly two years later, weddings and photography merged and I've been trying to perfect the two ever since!

    Now, with over 20 years of photography now under my belt, I’ve worked with people from all backgrounds and industries and am proud to provide a range of photography services - from weddings and family portraits to corporate and commercial shoots. I'm proud to ensure each and every one are happy with the results.

    So whether it's a weddings, engagement, portrait, families shoot, corporate event or commercial shoot, I hope you will get in touch!

  • Photography is such an exciting medium. There are so many incredible ways of capturing a look or mood or telling a story that will always keep me striving for more. Combined with digital photography format, which gives me that little bit more control over how images are captured and processed, the possibilities are endless. And this motivates me to get up each morning!

    I'm proud to call myself a photographer and there are some moments that really make the job worthwhile. The happiness I get capturing life’s great moments for my clients. Watching as a shy couple or photography subject drop their guard and start to enjoy themselves during a shoot. Seeing clients happiness as they admire prints on their walls or look through an album from their wedding. I could go on and on…

  • Many years down the track and I’m not only shooting weddings, but pretty well any event you can imagine. Whether it’s a portrait, corporate event, fashion shoot, fundraiser, opening or a social media or website content shoot, I make sure to apply the same style and professionalism.

    I often collaborate with leading stylists and suppliers to make any shoot as trouble-free and exciting as possible.

  • Great visual moments can be big or small, but done right will stay with us forever.

    The candid or natural approach is my signature style and it generally means I'm able to convey your story in a quirky and elegant way. I do this by keeping disruptions to a minimum and quietly and professionally capture the best of everything. And I don’t do photography fads - which means that my work will age well.

    When my clients need more than just photography, I collaborate with leading stylists and suppliers to make any shoot as trouble-free and exciting as possible.

  • Even though I am based in Melbourne, I have traveled all over Australia and most parts of the world for photography work and am able to travel (subject to my schedule).
